Biography
Skara Brae was an Irish traditional music group formed in Kells, County Meath, with origins in Ranafast, County Donegal. The band consisted of siblings MÃcheál à Domhnaill, TrÃona Nà Dhomhnaill, and Maighread Nà Dhomhnaill, alongside Dáithà Sproule from Derry. The group originated during Irish language summer schools in the late 1960s. In 1971, Skara Brae released their self-titled debut album Skara Brae on Gael-Linn Records. It was notable for being the first recording to include vocal harmonization in Irish language songs. This work was considered one of the most important albums in its genre. The group disbanded in 1972. Dáithà Sproule later joined Altan in 1992. MÃcheál and TrÃona co-founded the influential Bothy Band in 1974. The group reunited for concerts in 1997 and 2005, and they embarked on a US tour in October 2013.
