Biography

Bill Morrissey, born November 25, 1951, in Hartford, Connecticut, was an American folk singer-songwriter. He began playing guitar at age 13 and formed a jug band in high school. His musical career started after he traveled extensively and settled in Newmarket, New Hampshire. Bill Morrissey, his debut album, was released in 1984 on the Reckless label and later re-recorded for Philo Records. Notable songs include "Small Town on the River", which reflects life in New England mill towns. Over three decades, two of his twelve albums received Grammy nominations. His last album, Come Running, was released in 2007 and featured collaborations with Dave Alvin and members of Morphine. Bill Morrissey died on July 23, 2011, during a tour in Dalton, Georgia.
