The Wellermen are a British band formed in 2019, who quickly captured global attention with their revival of sea shanties, the traditional sea shanties that tell the stories of sailors, fishermen and sea workers. The band gained worldwide popularity after their song "Wellerman" went viral on the Internet in 2021, propelling sea shanties into the zeitgeist and making the track an essential anthem of contemporary folk music. Comprising singers Bobby Waters, Luke Taylor, Sam Pope, Aaron Sloan and Jonny Stewart, The Wellermen produced the EP Silent Night (2021) and two albums, The Wellermen (2023) and Northern Sky (2025).
