Biography

Archie Fisher was born on October 23, 1939, in Glasgow, Scotland. He began his career by moving to Edinburgh in 1960, performing at The Howff folk club and releasing songs with his sister Ray, including "Far Over the Forth" (Topic Records). His first solo album was Archie Fisher in 1968. Fisher recorded notable songs like "All Around My Hat" and "The Final Trawl". In the mid-1970s he produced four folk albums with Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy. Other albums include Orfeo (1970), The Man with a Rhyme (1976), Will Ye Gang, Love (1976), Sunsets I've Galloped Into (1988), Windward Away (2008), and A Silent Song (2015). He hosted a radio show on BBC Radio Scotland for nearly three decades until April 2010. Fisher received an MBE in the New Year Honours in 2006, recognizing his contributions to traditional Scottish music. Archie Fisher died on November 1st, 2025, at the age of 86.
