The Sleepy Jackson, an Australian alternative rock group formed in Perth in 1998, was fronted by multiâinstrumentalist Luke Steele, who handled lead vocals and guitar. The bandâs early days saw Steele and drummer Jesse Steele release a selfâtitled EP and the single "Miniskirt" in 1999, followed by the single "Vampire Racecourse" in 2003, which introduced the group to a wider audience. In 2003 the album Lovers was issued by Capitol Records, reaching the Australian charts and establishing the bandâs presence in the United Kingdom. The followâup EP Good Dancers and the single "God Lead Your Soul" in 2006 built momentum that culminated in the studio album Personality â One Was a Spider, One Was a Bird, released 1 July 2006, which debuted at number 10 on the Australian Albums Chart and earned a J Award nomination that same month. The group supported international tours, including appearances at the Big Day Out and the Falls Festival, and collaborated with artists such as Silverchair and Pnau. Following extensive touring, the band entered a period of inactivity and the website went dormant after 2008; no further studio releases followed, and the group went on indefinite hiatus after that.
