The Red Paintings, an Australian collaborative art rock band, was formed in Geelong in 1998. Founding member Trash McSweeney, along with Alisha Fountain on bass guitar, Nathan Hewitt on synthesiser and sampling, Luke Rossiello on synthesiser, and Phil Smythwaite on violin, released their first EP The Red Paintings in 1999. The band's early performances incorporated theatrical elements and visual projections, often inviting audience participation. After relocating to Brisbane and signing with Modern Music/Sony BMG, they released the EP Walls in 2005, which featured the title track that entered Triple Jâs Net 50 chart at number 3. The band toured extensively, including performances in China, Hong Kong, and the United States, supporting acts like Dresden Dolls and Mindless Self Indulgence. Notable releases include the albums Your Tears Are Warning Signs (2004) and The Revolution Is Never Coming (2013).
