Biography

The Penelopes is a French electronic music duo formed in Paris by Axel Basquiat and Vincent TrÃ©mel. The ensemble released the EP Steal This in 2005 through Lucy Lee Quality Recordings. Its debut studio recording, The Arrogance of Simplicity, appeared in 2006. The group's recording âDemianâ was used in a Perrier advertising campaign. In 2007, the duo received the Qwartz Electronic Music Award for âBest Discoveryâ. The ensemble relocated to London in 2012 and established the label Pour Le Monde Records. It released the studio album Never Live Another Yesterday in 2012. The duo collaborated with performers including Isabelle Adjani and Asia Argento for the 2022 recording Life Is Long (Chapter One). The group also composed film soundtracks for the features SpaceBoy (2020) and The Swimmer (2022). In 2025, the duo released the recording âOver Sensitivityâ with Laura Smet.
