Biography

First emerging in the mid-2000s alongside the likes of Klaxons and CSS, Metronomy were part of the nu-rave craze before evolving into one of London's most critically acclaimed indie/dance crossover acts. The brainchild of Joe Mount (born September 11, 1982 in Devon, England), who first started making homemade electronic beats while studying at Brighton University, the band's debut album Pip Paine (Pay The £5000 You Owe) (2006) became an underground hit and led to remix work for acts such as Goldfrapp, Gorillaz, Kate Nash and later Lady Gaga. Their mix of electro-pop synths and new wave art-rock was further explored on Nights Out (2008), but it was with third album The English Riviera (2011) that things really started to take off. Recognised as one of the albums of the year, it was nominated for the Mercury Prize and cemented Joe Mount's reputation as one of the UK's most innovative young producers. The band's fourth studio album, Love Letters (2014), became their most successful record to date, peaking at number seven on the UK Albums Chart. They followed up their success with Summer 08 in 2016 and Metronomy Fever in 2019, which reached number 15 on the UK Albums Chart. In 2022, Metronomy returned with another breezy album of alt-pop, Small World. Their seventh full-length to date, the LP went to number 7 on the UK Albums Chart as well as cracking the Top 40 in France, Belgium, and Switzerland.
