Biography

The Moldy Peaches are a pioneering American anti-folk band known for their quirky, irreverent style, and DIY ethos. Formed in 1994 in New York City by Adam Green and Kimya Dawson, the group became a defining act in the anti-folk scene, blending folk melodies with punk-inspired irreverence and offbeat humor. The band grew into a six-piece, with guitarists Jack Dishel and Aaron Wilkinson, bass player Steven Mertens, and drummer Strictly Beats. They toured internationally with the Strokes. Their self-titled debut (and one and only) album, released in 2001, is a cult classic, featuring lo-fi production, playful lyrics, and eccentric performances that challenged conventional folk norms. The Moldy Peaches gained wider recognition when their song "Anyone Else but You" was featured prominently in the 2007 film Juno, earning them a new generation of fans. The track was released as a UK single on Rough Trade in 2008. Although the Moldy Peaches went on hiatus in the early 2000s, they have made several live comebacks over the years. First in 2004 for a one-off benefit show with Adam Green and Kimya Dawson later reuniting in December 2007, playing the Juno premiere that year. Then in 2011 they came together again for another one-off concert. They announced their reunion in 2022 and played several dates the following year.
