Born on 17 November 1972 in Bedford Hills, New York, Kimya Dawson is a pioneering figure in the anti-folk movement, known for her raw, quirky, and deeply personal music that blends folk sensibilities with punk ethos. Rising to prominence in the early 2000s as one-half of the indie duo the Moldy Peaches alongside Adam Green, she became a defining voice for a generation of outsiders and DIY artists. She released her debut album I'm Sorry That Sometimes I'm Mean in 2002 and another six full-length albums followed, including fourth LP Hidden Vagenda in 2004.
