The Marshmallow Overcoat was an American garage rock band from Tucson that was active between 1986 and 2011. The ensemble was founded by the lead singer Timothy Gassen, performing under the stage name âRandy Loveâ, and is famous for a psychedelic sound dubbed the âArizona soundâ. They achieved early professional recognition with their debut studio album, The Inner Groove (1987), released through Dionysus Records. The groupâs discography includes the studio recordings Try On... (1988), A Touch of Evil (1993), and The Complete Sound (2011), alongside the single âSuddenly Sundayâ (1988), which received airplay on MTV. Between 1991 and 1993, the ensemble performed under the name Overcoat. After a period of inactivity starting in 1996, the group resumed activity in 2000 and released the compilation The Very Best Of (2014).
