The Mooney Suzuki formed in Newâ¯York City in 1996, originally composed of vocalist and guitarist Sammy Jamesâ¯Jr., guitarist Graham Tyler, bassist Johnâ¯Paulâ¯Ribas, and drummer Willâ¯RockwellâScott; the bandâs name references the first two vocalists of the German group Can. Their early career began with the release of the singles "Takingâ¯Meâ¯Apart" and "Loveâ¯Isâ¯Everywhere" in 1998, followed by an EP in 1999, and the debut album Peopleâ¯Getâ¯Ready in 2000 on Estrus Records. In 2002, the group issued Electricâ¯Sweat, touring with the Strokes and the Hives and securing a deal with Columbia Records; the same year they appeared on Lateâ¯Nightâ¯withâ¯Conanâ¯O'Brien and other television programs. The sophomore album Aliveâ¯&â¯Amplified was released in 2004, featuring the track "Aliveâ¯andâ¯Amplified" which entered the UK Singles Chart at number 38 and was included in the Maddenâ¯NFLâ¯2005 videoâgame soundtrack. After a brief hiatus, the band released Haveâ¯Mercy in 2007 on Elixia Records, contributing tracks to film soundtracks such as Tropicâ¯Thunder.
