Biography

The Kids of Widney High is an American music group composed of students with physical and cognitive disabilities from J. P. Widney High School in Los Angeles, California. The band was formed in 1988 as a song-writing class taught by Michael Monagan and evolved into two groups: one consisting of graduates performing at local clubs and the other made up of current students. Their debut album, Special Music from Special Kids, was released on Rounder Records in 1989. The group gained a following through live performances at venues like The Knitting Factory and Amoeba Music, as well as appearances on the Vans Warped Tour. Notable albums include Let's Get Busy (1999) on Mike Patton’s Ipecac Records label and Act Your Age (2003) on Moonman Records. They have collaborated with various artists, including opening for The Melvins and Fantômas, and their songs have been covered by groups like The Aquabats and Osaka Popstar.
