Biography

The Jesters was an American doo-wop group from New York City. Formed in 1957, the ensemble originally consisted of students from Cooper Junior High School in Harlem, including Adam Jackson, Lenny McKay, Anthony "Jimmy" Smith, Leo Vincent and Noel Grant. Discovered at the Apollo Theater by Paul Winley, the group signed with Winley Records and released their first singles, “So Strange” / “Love No One But You” and “Please Let Me Love You” / “I'm Falling in Love”, in 1957. These recordings were arranged by Dave "Baby" Cortez and appeared on the national pop charts. In 1958, they released the single “The Plea” / “Oh Baby”. The ensemble is best known for the 1959 recording The Paragons Meet the Jesters, which was one of the first rock and roll compilation albums. In 1960, a new lineup of the group reached number 110 on the Billboard charts with a cover of the song “The Wind”. Their later career included the singles “That's How It Goes” (1960) and “Come Let Me Show You How” (1961).
