Biography
The Danleers are an American doo-wop group formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1958. The original lineup consisted of Jimmy Weston, Johnny Lee, Willie Ephraim, Nat McCune, and Roosevelt Mays. The group's breakthrough came with their debut single "One Summer Night", released on the AMP 3 label in 1958. The song gained regional traction before being leased to Mercury Records, where it became one of the yearâs biggest hits, selling over one million copies and reaching number 4 on the Billboard Black Singles chart and number 7 on the Best Selling Pop Singles in Stores chart. The Danleers toured nationally with artists like Frankie Avalon and Bobby Darin but struggled with subsequent releases. By the mid-1960s, the group had mostly dissolved, though Weston continued to tour with various members for several decades. In 1988, the original lineup reunited for a show at the Westbury Music Fair on Long Island. The Danleers released their compilation album The Best of the Danleers: The Mercury Years in 1996, which included all of their singles for Mercury and unreleased recordings. Jimmy Weston passed away in June 1993, followed by Willie Ephraim in October 1998.
