Biography
The Halo Benders, an American band formed in 1994, was a side project by Calvin Johnson of Beat Happening and Doug Martsch of Built to Spill. The band was known for their untraditional sounds and contrasting vocal styles of Johnson and Martsch. Their debut album, God Donât Make No Junk, was released that year, followed by Don't Tell Me Now in 1996 and The Rebels Not In in 1998, all on Johnson's K Records label. Notable singles include "Canned Oxygen" (1994) and "Don't Touch My Bikini" (1995). After a hiatus in the early 2000s, they reformed in March 2007 for shows in Boise, Idaho, and performed a benefit concert in November 2010 at the Capitol Theater in Olympia, WA.
