Biography

The Fretless is a Canadian folk music group based in Toronto, Ontario, consisting of violinists Trent Freeman, Karrnnel Sawitsky, Ben Plotnick, and cellist Eric Wright. The group released their debut album Waterbound in 2012, winning the Canadian Folk Music Awards for Instrumental Group of the Year and Ensemble of the Year. Their self-titled second album, released in 2014, also earned them the CFMA for Ensemble of the Year. In 2016, they released Bird's Nest, which won the Juno Award for Instrumental Album of the Year in 2017. The band continued with Live from the Art Farm in 2018 and Open House in 2021, featuring guest vocalists including Taylor Ashton and Dan Mangan. Their sixth album, Glasswing, was released on September 13, 2024, featuring the single "Lost Lake".
