The Four Knights, an American band from Charlotte, North Carolina, formed in 1943. The original lineup included Gene Alford (tenor), Oscar Broadway (bass), Clarence Dixon (baritone), and John Wallace (tenor). Initially known as the Southland Jubilee Singers, they performed gospel music alongside vocal pop and doo-wop numbers.
The group signed with Decca Records in 1946, releasing four singles over the next two years. In 1951, they moved to Capitol Records, where they released approximately 40 singles, along with two LPs and three EPs. Their breakthrough came in 1954 with "I Get So Lonely When I Dream About You (Oh Baby Mine)", which reached number 3 on the U.S. charts and sold over a million copies worldwide, earning them a gold disc. The song also peaked at number 5 on the UK singles chart under the title "Oh Baby Mine (I Get So Lonely)". Gene Alford left the group due to health issues in 1960. The Four Knights disbanded in 1966 following Clarence Dixonâs departure. In 2002, they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.
