Biography

The Cues were an American R&B vocal group formed in 1954 by Jesse Stone. The original members included Ollie Jones, Winfield Scott, Abel DeCosta, and Eddie Barnes. They initially recorded for various labels, including the Lamp label and for RCA Records under the name the Four Students. The Cues gained prominence as backing singers on Atlantic Records, working with notable artists such as LaVern Baker and Nat "King" Cole. Their first release on Capitol Records was "Burn That Candle", but it was overshadowed by a cover version by Bill Haley and His Comets. The group's most notable success came with the song "Why". They disbanded in the late 1950s but briefly reformed in 1960 to record for Herb Abramson's Jubilee Records before finally disbanding.
