Biography

The Four Brothers, a Zimbabwean Jit band from Harare, were formed in 1977 by Marshall Munhumunye and Never Mutare. The group initially gained recognition by playing rock 'n' roll covers at the Saratoga bar in Salisbury (now Harare). Their breakthrough came with "Makorokoto", celebrating Zimbabwe's independence. In the late 1980s, they signed with Cooking Vinyl and toured the UK and Canada, gaining support from BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel. Notable albums include Rudo Chete (1988) and Bros (1989). The group faced significant losses with the deaths of key members: Munhumunye in 1997, Mutare in 2002, and Frank Sibanda in 2010. Despite attempts to revive the band, legal disputes over the name ensued, culminating in a court ruling against its use by former member James Nyamande in 2012.
