Mango Groove, a South African Afropop band, was formed in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa in 1984 by members of Pett Frog and kwela musician "Big Voice" Jack Lerole. Their first single "Two Hearts" was released in 1985 with Claire Johnston as lead vocalist. In 1987, Mango Groove achieved their first hit with "Move Up", which reached Number 1 on the Capital Radio hitparade. The band's debut album Mango Groove was released in July 1989. Notable members include John Leyden and Claire Johnston. They have released several studio albums, including Bang the Drum (2009), as well as compilation albums like Moments Away: Love Songs and Lullabies, 1990â2006. Their music fuses pop with township genres like marabi and kwela.
