Biography

The First Edition, an American country rock group from the United States of America, formed in 1967. The band's lineup included Kenny Rogers on lead vocals and bass guitar, Mickey Jones on drums and percussion, Terry Williams on guitar and vocals, Mike Settle on guitar and backing vocals, and Thelma Camacho on lead vocals. The First Edition signed with Reprise Records in 1967 and released their first single "I Found a Reason", which had minor sales. Their breakthrough came early the following year with the psychedelic hit "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)", which peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The group enjoyed further chart success with singles such as "But You Know I Love You" and "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town", which reached number 6 in the US and number 2 in the UK. By the mid-1970s, Kenny Rogers embarked on a solo career, marking the end of The First Edition's active years.
