James Blundell, born on December 8, 1964, in Stanthorpe, Queensland, Australia, is a country music singer. Raised on a sheep and cattle station, Blundell turned to music after a back injury. His breakthrough came in 1987 when he was named Best New Talent at the Country Music Awards of Australia (CMAA), securing a recording contract with RCA Victor Australia and releasing "Gidgee Bug Pub Song". James Blundell's debut studio album, James Blundell, was released in 1989 under EMI, featuring singles like "Cloncurry Cattle Song" and "Kimberley Moon", which earned him Male Vocalist of the Year awards at the CMAA. His second studio album Hand It Down (1990) peaked at Number 50 on the ARIA charts and won him his first ARIA Award for Best Country Album in 1991. Blundell's commercial success continued with This Road (1992), which sold over 145,000 copies in Australia and was certified platinum, earning him multiple Golden Guitar awards at the CMAA. In 2001, EMI released his first greatest hits album, I Shall Be Released: The Best of James Blundell. As an independent artist, Blundell released albums like Deluge (2005) and Ring Around the Moon (2007), earning notable awards such as Australian Independent Country Music Single of the Year for "Postcards from Saigon" in 2005. He was inducted into the Australia Country Music Hands of Fame in 2007 and the Country Music Channel's Hall of Fame in 2012.
