Biography

Barefoot Jerry was an American progressive country rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. The group formed in 1971 and was composed of area studio musicians under the tutelage of Wayne Moss and Mac Gayden. Named after a country fiddle player known to Mac Gayden, Barefoot Jerry's first lineup included Wayne Moss, Mac Gayden, Kenneth A. Buttrey, and John Harris. Their debut album, Southern Delight, was released in 1971. The band's second album, Barefoot Jerry, followed in 1972 on Warner Bros. Records. Notable singles include "You Can't Get Off with Your Shoes On" (released May 30, 1975) and "Summit Ridge Drive". Throughout their career, Barefoot Jerry released several albums including Watchin' TV (1974), Keys to the Country (1976), and Barefootin' (1977). The band disbanded in 1977. Drummer Kenny Buttrey died in 2004; guitarist Bobby Thompson in 2005; lead guitarist/singer Mac Gayden in 2025; and guitarist/keyboardist/singer Wayne Moss in 2026.
