The Cruel Sea, an Australian indie rock band from Sydney, New South Wales, was formed in late 1987. The original lineup included Jim Elliott on drums and Dan Rumour on guitar, with Dee Corben on bass guitar and his brother Gerard "Ged" Corben on guitar. The band initially played instrumental music but gained popularity after Tex Perkins joined as the vocalist. In 1989, they released their first EP, Down Below, which featured nine tracks and was produced by Phil Punch and The Cruel Sea. Their debut album, also titled Down Below, followed in December 1990. The band's breakthrough came with the release of "Reckless Eyeballin '" from This Is Not the Way Home (1991), which became the theme song for the Australian TV police drama Blue Heelers. Their third album, The Honeymoon Is Over, released in May 1993, peaked at Number 4 on the ARIA Albums Chart and sold over 140,000 copies. The title track reached the Top 50 in August of that year. The Cruel Sea won eight ARIA Music Awards, including five in 1994 for work associated with The Honeymoon Is Over. Their music has been featured on television, such as "Better Get a Lawyer" soundtracking an RTA ad targeting drink driving.
