The Appleseed Cast, an American emo band from Lawrence, Kansas, was founded in 1997 by singer-guitarist Christopher Crisci and drummer Louie Ruiz. Initially known as December's Tragic Drive, the band signed to Deep Elm Records in 1998 and released their debut album, The End of the Ring Wars. The Appleseed Cast gained significant acclaim with the release of Low Level Owl: Volume I (2001) and Volume II (2002), earning a 9.0 from Pitchfork. Throughout their career, the band has maintained a frequently rotating lineup with Crisci as the sole consistent member. Notable albums include Two Conversations (2003), Peregrine (2006), and Illumination Ritual (2013). The Appleseed Cast signed to Graveface Records in 2009 and released Sagarmatha, which reached number 25 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. In addition to their studio albums, the band has released several singles, including "Tale of the Aftermath / Skatter Ik Ignito", "North Star Ordination", and albums such as The Fleeting Light of Impermanence (2019).
