Biography
Amboina Serenaders was a Dutch Hawaiian music group from the Netherlands, established in 1950. The ensemble was founded by Rudi Wairata and initially performed under the name Mena Muria Minstrels. The group's lineup featured Wairata, Ming Luhulima, and Joyce Aubrey. In 1953, following a disagreement within the quartet, Wairata left the ensemble to be replaced as leader by Luhulima. The group achieved commercial success in 1955 with the release of the single "Goro Goro Néâ". The following year, their single "Klappermelk Met Suiker", composed by Pierre Wijnnobel, reached number 9 on the Dutch charts and remained in the rankings for five weeks. Aubrey left the band in 1958 to join the Royal Hawaiian Minstrels, an ensemble led by her former husband. Amboina Serenaders became inactive shortly thereafter. The group's recording career is documented on the 10" LP Amboina and the studio album Goodbye To You, Nona Manis, the latter of which was published through the label Dureco. Founding member Wairata died in 1981.
