British flautist, saxophonist, producer, label owner, and DJ Ed Cawthorne is better known as Tenderlonious. One of the most versatile musicians in the UK, Ed Cawthorne has performed jazz fusion with his band Ruby Rushton as well as creating Hindustani classical music with Pakistani quartet Jaubi. He also works behind the scenes, producing a series of well-received underground deep house, ambient electronica, and electro funk releases. Ed Cawthorne founded his own label, 22a, and began releasing his own solo productions under the name Tenderlonious, incorporating his flute playing with electronica. His first release on 22a was the 2013 self-titled split EP release with Al Dobson, Jr. While his label released a series of singles by a variety of artists, 22aâs main artist was, of course, Tenderlonious. The first full length featuring Tenderlonious was 2017âs Break Ci7y, his collaboration with Dennis Ayler. The following year, The Shakedown (2018) found Tenderlonious backed by the 22archestra. The critically acclaimed Hard Rain was released in 2019, followed by Quarantena (2020). 22a also released the Jaubi album Ragas from Lahora, Improvisations with Jaubi in 2020. After the release of Quarantena, he began working on his next release, Still Flute, which was a continuation of his eclectic electronica styles led by his live flute playing.
