Molly Thomason, known professionally as T. Thomason, was born in 1994 in Sidcup, Kent, England, and raised in Nova Scotia. She began her music career with the release of Through the Static (2009), which included two Number 1 hits on the East Coast Countdown: "Kiss Me" and "Text Book Cute." In 2011, she released Beauty Queen, featuring the single "All Down the Highway." Thomason won the Canadian Folk Music Award for Young Performer of the Year in 2011. Her subsequent albums include Columbus Field (2014) and T. Thomason (2019). She gained significant recognition for her appearance on the second season of the Canadian reality music competition The Launch, where she won with a performance of "Hope" written for the show by Jocelyn Alice and produced by Alex Hope. Following her victory, she released "Hope" through Big Machine Records in February 2019.
