Sugar Plant, a Japanese dream pop band, was formed in 1993 by vocalist Chinatsu Shoyama and guitarist Shin'ichi Ogawa while they were studying at university. Their single "Cloudy" marked their initial release in 1994. Sugar Plant released several albums including Hiding Place (1995), Trance Mellow (1996), and After After Hours (1996). The band's music is characterized by its slow, mellow, and melodic sound, often compared to American "slowcore" groups. Throughout their career, Sugar Plant released notable EPs such as Cage Of The Sun E.P. (1996) and Pino (1997), as well as albums like Happy / Trance Mellow (1998) and Dryfruit (2000). They recorded for labels including Pop Narcotic, Pony Canyon, and World Domination Recordings.
