Strangefolk, an American jam band from Burlington, Vermont, formed in 1991 as an acoustic duo by Jon Trafton and Reid Genauer at the University of Vermont. The band evolved into a full group with Erik Glockler on bass and Luke Smith on drums by 1993, playing local bars and quickly gaining popularity. They released their self-titled debut album Strangefolk in 1994, followed by Lore in 1995 and Weightless in Water in 1997. In 1998, Strangefolk signed with Mammoth Records but faced setbacks when Disney acquired the label in 1999. Their major-label debut album "A Great Long While," produced by Nile Rodgers, was released independently in 2000 after founding member Reid Genauer left the band in September of that year. The group underwent several lineup changes and continued touring, releasing Postcard From the Road and Open Road in 2000 and 2001 respectively.
