Biography
Stepdad, an electronic/pop band from Grand Rapids, Michigan, was formed in Chicago, Illinois, during the summer of 2009 by Mark Tafel and Ryan McCarthy. The duo initially gained exposure in early 2010 when they composed a theme song for the popular web comic "Axe Cop". In 2011, Stepdad released their first EP, Ordinaire, independently via Bandcamp, which included the singles "Jungles" and "My Leather, My Fur, My Nails". Their debut LP, Wildlife Pop, was released in 2012 under Black Bell Records. Notable songs from this period include "Must Land Running", featured in a national BMW TV commercial called "Moments", and "Jungles", which appeared in the EA Sports video game FIFA 13. Stepdad's music has also been featured in various television shows, movies, and other media, including the series finale of Weeds, the movie Beautiful Prison, and the rally film Easier said than done.
