Stefan Schönegg, born in 1986 in Heppenheim, Germany, is a musician, double bass player, and improviser. He grew up in Konstanz and initially studied classical double bass at the Hochschule für Musik âHanns Eislerâ Berlin before transitioning to jazz double bass studies in Cologne starting in 2010. Schönegg's career began with collaborations including performances with Yoshiko Klein, Fabian Jung, and the Simon Nabatov Trio. He has been part of various ensembles such as Schmidâs Huhn, Die Fichten, and the quartet of Eva Klesse, contributing to albums like Creatures & States (2020). Schönegg founded his own band project, Enso, in 2016, which released two albums: Enso: Strukturen (2021) and Enso: Strings & Percussion (2022). He is a founding member of the Kölner Kollektiv für Improvisation und aktuelle Musik Impakt and was named NICA Artist of the European Centre for Jazz and Current Music in 2023.
