Biography

William Charles McLaughlin is an American new age acoustic guitarist, composer, and producer. McLaughlin graduated from the University of Southern California and released the debut studio album Billy McLaughlin in 1988. The discography includes the albums Inhale Pink (1989), The Archery of Guitar (1993), and Fingerdance (1996). In 1998, McLaughlin developed symptoms of focal dystonia, a neurological condition that limited the ability to play guitar. McLaughlin retrained to play left-handed using a tapping style and released the album Out of Hand in 1999. In 2002, McLaughlin formed the Christmas music ensemble Simple Gifts. McLaughlin resumed public performance in 2006 and released the album Into the Light in 2007. Simple Gifts released the album A Small Town Christmas in 2009. McLaughlin received the Public Leadership in Neurology Award from the American Academy of Neurology in 2010 for the role as an ambassador for the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation.
