Sons of Funk, a contemporary R&B and hipâhop collective from Richmond, California, emerged in 1997 when the group-comprising members Zo Dez and Jerry Rico-signed with No Limit Records under Master P, marking their entry into the national scene. Their breakthrough came with the single "Pushin' Inside You" from the I'm Bout It soundtrack, which peaked at Number 97 on the Billboard Hotâ¯100; the followâup "I Got The Hook Up" further cemented their presence. On Aprilâ¯21, 1998, the group released their debut studio album The Game Of Funk, which reached Number 44 on the Billboardâ¯200 and earned RIAA platinum certification. They contributed production to Silkk The Shockerâs 1999 album Made Man and collaborated with artists such as Moâ¯B.â¯Dick. After a brief hiatus in 1999, the group reassembled in 2014, issuing The Lost Files, Vol.â¯1 on Januaryâ¯8, 2015, and followed with The Lost Files, Vol.â¯2 in 2016, continuing to produce tracks for other hipâhop acts while maintaining a legacy of chartâworthy releases.
