Some Velvet Sidewalk is an experimental lo-fi rock band from Olympia, Washington. Formed in Eugene, Oregon, in 1987 by Al Larsen and Robert Christie, they released their first cassette, From Playground 'Til Now, independently in 1988. Their debut album, Appetite for Extinction, was released in 1990 on K Records. The band's lineup evolved over the years, with notable members including Jenny Olay, Tobi Vail, Louise Olsen, Don Blair, Martin Bernier, Ryan Baldoz, and Paul Schuster. Notable singles include "I Know" (1988) and "Pumpkin Patch" (1991). Some Velvet Sidewalk disbanded in 1997 following an American tour. Al Larsen continued his musical career with various bands and as a solo artist, while other members pursued different projects. In 2026, the band reunited Al Larsen and released Critters Encore, their first studio album in nearly three decades.
