Biography

A post-punk and rap duo based in Nottingham (England), Sleaford Mods is the project of singer Jason Williamson (b. 1970). Partnered on the first four albums, between 2007 and 2011, with producer Simon Parfrement, he teamed up the following year with Andrew Fearn (b. 1971). It's with the latter that success arrives with the album Divide and Exit, considered one of the great revelations of 2014, without however finding its way into the charts. The mix of rock, rap, electro and punk spirit, combined with the hooligan looks and sharp lyrics of the two protagonists, nonetheless aroused public and media excitement. In 2015, Sleaford Mods collaborated with Leftfield and The Prodigy, then released Key Markets, their first album to chart in the UK (#11). Two years later followed English Tapas (No. 12), still in the same artisanal style. The subject of two documentaries, Sleaford Mods: Invisible Britain (2015) and Bunch of Kunst: A Film About Sleaford Mods (2017), the duo meanwhile released the EP T.C.R. and embarked on their first American tour. 2019 sees the release of Eton Alive (#9), on their own Extreme Eating Records label. This is followed in 2021 by Spare Ribs (#4), supported by the single "Mork n Mindy ". Two years later follows their twelfth album UK Grim, an uncompromising depiction of the England of the moment. For the occasion, the duo invited Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro from Jane's Addiction (on the track "So Trendy"), and Dry Cleaning singer Florence Shaw (on "Force 10 From Navarone"). Just three years later, The Demise of Planet X is released, featuring contributions from Gwendoline Christie and Big Special, Aldous Harding, Sue Tompkins, Liam Bailey and Snowy.
