Biography

The band Skid Row from Toms River in New Jersey rose to prominence in the late 1980s, initially as a glam rock outfit but latterly as a straightforward heavy metal band; the brainchild of bassist Rachel Bolan and guitarist Dave Sabo. With frontman Sebastian Bach, guitarist Scotti Hill and drummer Rob Afuso, the band were phenomenally successful following their debut album Skid Row. The follow-up Slave to the Grind was certified multi-platinum and went to the top of the Billboard 200. The band's sound was orchestrated by the legendary rock producer Michael Wagener and throughout the late 1980s and into the 1990s they sold over 20 million records. In common with many other bands in the metal genre, Skid Row unexpectedly found their record sales falling off following the advent of grunge. On the advice of their manager Doc McGhee, Skid Row took a three-year hiatus while grunge music came to the forefront. The band subsequently went through a period of line-up changes and mixed critical reviews and for a variety of reasons never regained the ground they lost during the break. The core members of Rachel Bolan, Dave Sabo and Scotti Hill continued to tour and perform and the band regularly appeared on the rock circuit in conjunction with acts such as Kiss and Mötley Crüe who rose to fame during the same era. The band's last album with drummer Dave Gara, Revolutions per Minute, appeared in 2006 with their next full-length release materialising 16 years later. 2022 offering The Gang's All Here was produced by Nick Raskulinecz for earMUSIC and fared moderately well on the global charts, peaking at number two on the UK's Rock & Metal Albums chart. The band released their first-ever live album in 2024, Skid Row – Live in London, which commits their sold-out October 2022 performance at the O2 Kentish Town Forum to wax.
