Biography

Kix, an American glam metal band from Hagerstown, Maryland, was formed in 1976 under the name "The Shooze" by Ronnie "10/10" Younkins and Donnie Purnell. The band underwent several lineup changes before settling on the name Kix in 1980. Their debut album Kix was released in 1981. In 1983, they achieved their first chart success with the album Cool Kids, which reached number 177 on the Billboard charts. The band's breakthrough came with the release of "Don't Close Your Eyes" from the album Blow My Fuse in 1988, which sold 850,000 units and propelled them to mainstream success. They toured extensively, including a notable performance at The Marquee in New York City in 1991. Despite lineup changes and internal struggles, Kix continued to release albums such as Hot Wire (1991) and Rock Your Face Off (2014). The band's music is often compared to that of AC/DC, Mötley Crüe, and Kiss, with a distinctive blend of hard rock and glam metal elements. Kix has maintained an active presence in the music scene, continuing to tour and release new material despite various challenges, including health issues faced by members such as Jimmy "Chocolate" Chalfant and Ronnie Younkins.
