Biography

Sinfonye is an Australian ensemble specializing in medieval music that was formed in 1986 by their director Stevie Wishart. The group's early recordings include the albums Bella Domna (1987) and The Courts of Love (1989). Sinfonye achieved recognition for their interpretations of the complete works of Hildegard von Bingen, releasing the first volume, Symphony of the Harmony of Celestial Revelations, in 1995. Subsequent volumes included Aurora (1999) and O nobilissima viriditas (2004). The ensemble's discography also includes the albums The Sweet Look and the Loving Manner (1992) and Gabriel's Greeting (1993), which features medieval English Christmas music. In 1995, the group released Three sisters on the seashore, followed by the instrumental recording Red Iris (1996). Sinfonye is noted for their performances of trobairitz love lyrics and chansons de femme from medieval France.
