Biography

Gerre Edward Hancock was an American organist, improviser and composer. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Sacred Music degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York. In 1971, he became Organist and Master of the Choristers at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York City, a role he held until 2004. Throughout his career, Gerre Edward Hancock released several albums, including Praise the Lord (1990). He was a recipient of numerous awards, including the International Performer of the Year Award by the New York City Chapter of the American Guild of Organists in 2010. Gerre Edward Hancock died on January 21, 2012, in Austin, Texas.
