Simon Nabatov, born Semyo Leonidovich Nabatov on January 11, 1959 in Moscow, is a RussianâAmerican jazz pianist. After studying at the Moscow Conservatory, he emigrated to Newâ¯York in 1979, where he attended the Juilliard School from 1980 to 1984. His first recordings appeared in the early 1990s, including Tough Customer (1993) with Mark Helias and Sneak Preview (1999) with Tomâ¯Rainey. Subsequent releases such as Perpetuum Immobile (2000), Chat Room (2001), Around Brazil (2005), Jazz Limbo (2006), Moods and Modes (2010), and Plain (2020) marked a steady output. Nabatov was named Best Pianist in 1984 by Keyboard Magazine and earned awards at the 1985 International Great Jazz Pianist Competition and the 1989 Martial Solal Jazz Piano competition.
