Biography

Formed in Sendai, Japan in 2001, Sendai Kamotsu is a comedy rock side project founded by all the members of Nightmare, a visual key band founded in 2000. Each of Nightmare’s members – Yomi, Hitsugi, Sakito, Ni-ya, and Ruka - assumed new names in Sendai Kamotsu – Chiba, Fullface, Satty, Wen Chen, and Gigaflare - and they added programmer Kurihara to the new group’s line-up. While Nightmare continued to rise in popularity, their Sendai Kamotsu project released their first demos in 2002. The new group’s debut album, Okuru Kotoba, was released in 2004. The album reached Number 87 on the Japanese Albums chart and was followed in 2006 by the album Jensei Geimu, which climbed to Number 30. In 2009, the group announced that they were going on hiatus for financial reasons, releasing their third album, Deko, in October of that year. Deko was their most successful album to date, reaching Number 15. The members of the group continued to record with their main group, Nightmare, while Chiba also pursued a solo career. In 2011, the band announced that they were returning to action, releasing their comeback album, Chiba no Mikusu, in 2013. Their 2014 album Sendie Kamotsu reached Number 24 on the albums chart. During the career, the group also released a live album and two compilations. After a short period of inactivity, Sendai Kamotsu returned in August 2022 with the Hottest Summer in Japan EP.
