Scott Wendholt, born on July 21, 1965, in Denver, Colorado, is an American trumpeter and flugelhornist. He began learning how to play the trumpet in high school, influenced by Art Blakey's music. Early in his career, Wendholt collaborated with Greg Gisbert, Javon Jackson, and John Gunther. From 1983 to 1987, he studied at Indiana University under David Bakerâs Jazz Studies Program. Wendholtâs debut album, The Scheme of Things, was released in 1993 on Criss Cross Jazz. Throughout the 1990s, he became known in New Yorkâs post-bop scene, working with musicians like David Berkman and Don Braden. He performed with big bands led by Toshiko Akiyoshi, Woody Herman, and Maria Schneider. Wendholt released several albums, including From Now On⦠(1996) and Beyond Thursday (1997).
