Biography

Sarah Blasko is a platinum-selling indie rock artist from Sydney, Australia. Born as "Sarah Elizabeth Blaskow" on September 23, 1976, she was raised by missionary parents and began singing in church. She started writing her own songs at 18 years old, often accompanying herself on guitar. After earning a regional fan base with her first band, Acquiesce, she began performing locally as a solo artist in April 2002. Her debut EP, Prelusive, was released later that year and earned an ARIA nomination for Best Female Artist, while her full-length debut, 2004's The Overture & The Underscore, became a Top 40 success in Australia. Her second album, What The Sea Wants, The Sea Will Have, climbed to Number 7 upon its release in 2006 and later won Sarah Blakso her first ARIA Award. As Day Follows Night arrived in 2008, charting at Number 5 and featuring a straightforward, piano-based sound. Produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John, the album went platinum, as did its two predecessors. Sarah Blasko collaborated with Bulgaria's 52-piece New Symphony Orchestra for 2012's I Awake, explored the intersection of art-pop and synthesized electronic music with 2015's Eternal Return, and wrote 2018's Depth of Field during a two-week residency at the Campbelltown Arts Centre in Sydney. All three albums charted within the Top 10 on the Australian charts.
