Biography

After a successful stint as Beth in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, Natalie Imbruglia (Born 4 February 1975 in Sydney) relocated to London in 1996 to pursue a career as a singer. Her debut single, “Torn,” raced into the UK charts and found its place in the top spot where it stayed for 14 successive weeks, selling more than a million copies and breaking airplay records. The star's first album, Left of the Middle (1997) soon followed, managing to walk in the footsteps of the giant that “Torn” had become. Despite the cheery outlook, the sun was soon to go in on Imbruglia's superstardom—further releases could never quite match the commercial juggernaut of her first work and she fell off the radar for the rest of the 1990s. Happily in 2001, with writer's block conquered, she was back and a stream of decent pop songs poured forth. “Shiver,” a single from her third studio album, Counting Down the Days (2005), saw a return to form and even an Ivor Novello nomination. Natalie Imbruglia also picked up her acting career in the new millennium, co-starring in the film Johnny English (2003), and became the face of L'Oreal products from 2002 through to 2006. After the commercial flop of Come to Life (2009), Natalie Imbruglia took a six-year hiatus from the music industry and fully devoted herself to her acting career. She returned in 2015 with the album Male, a collection of covers by male artists that reached Number 25 on the Australian charts and Number 20 in the UK. In 2019, she teamed up with the Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr. and producer Gus Oberg to begin working on her sixth studio album Firebird, which saw the light in 2021 and entered the Top 10 of the UK Albums Chart thanks to singles like “Build It Better” and “Maybe It’s Great.” Her first live album, London - Live, came out in November 2024.
