Biography

Sapna Awasthi Singh is a Bollywood playback singer known best for her 1999 Indian pop-folk single "Chaiyya Chaiyya" from Indian Hindi-language film Dil Se.. and "UP Bihar Lootne" from action crime movie Shool. Classically trained from a young age, she completed Sangeet Vishaarad in Bhatkhande Music Institute, Lucknow, and started her singing career on the radio aged 15. Born in Kumaon, she relocated to Mumbai and scored a breakthrough hit singing "Jai Ambe Jagdambe" for 1994 Indian Hindi-language action crime film Krantiveer. She kept up the good work on 1995's Dushmani: A Violent Love Story, singing "Banno Teri Ankhiyan Soorme" and "Pardesi Pardesi" for 1996's Raja Hindustani, and went on to amass a string of hits during the 2000s and 2010s, including "Shadi Karvado" for 2000's Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai, "Bachke Tu Rehna Re" for 2002's Company, "Kata Kata" for 2010's Raavan and "Katiya Karoon" for 2011's Rockstar. That same year, she received a nomination for Female Vocalist of The Year at the 4th Mirchi Music Awards that year.
