Sad Lovers & Giants formed in 1980 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. The original lineup included vocalist Simon Allard, guitarist Tristan Garel-Funk, bassist Cliff Silver, drummer Nigel Pollard, and keyboardist/saxophonist David Wood. Their debut EP Clé and the single "Colourless Dream" were released in 1981, followed by their first studio album, Epic Garden Music, in 1982, which reached number 21 on the UK Independent Albums Chart. The band's singles "Lost in a Moment" (1982) and "Man of Straw" (1983) both charted on the UK Independent Singles Chart. In 1987, after a hiatus and lineup changes, they released The Mirror Test. Sad Lovers & Giants continued to tour extensively across Europe and released several more albums, including Headland in 1990. Their seventh studio album, Mission Creep, was released in 2018.
