Biography
Sacramentum, a melodic black metal band from Falköping, Sweden, was formed in 1990 by Nisse Karlén. Initially known as Tumulus, the group released their first demo tape Sedes Impiorum in 1993 under the new name Sacramentum. Their debut album Far Away from the Sun, released in June 1996, marked a significant breakthrough. In September 1997, they released their second full-length album The Coming of Chaos under Century Media Records, showcasing a shift towards blackened death metal. The band disbanded shortly after releasing their final studio album, Thy Black Destiny, in April 1999. Sacramentum resumed live performances in January 2022 with a new lineup consisting of Karlén (vocals), Calle Andersson (guitar) and Patrick Dagland (drums). Lead singer and also formerly guitarist (1990-1994), and bassist (1994-2001), Karlén committed suicide on August 25, 2025, at the age of 50.
