Biography

Ruth Cameron, born on June 4, 1947 in Vancouver, Canada, was an American jazz vocalist and record producer. She initially trained as an actor, performing in theaters across North America and Europe before transitioning to music. Her first recording, First Songs, was released in 1997 with bassist Charlie Haden, drummer Larance Marable, and pianist Chris Dawson. In 1999, she released her second album, Roadhouse. Cameron's work as a producer included co-producing several albums with her husband, bassist Charlie Haden, notably Land of the Sun, which won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album in 2005. She also appeared on various projects with Haden, including the bluegrass album Rambling Boy and the jazz album Sophisticated Ladies. Cameron passed away on September 11, 2021, in Westlake Village, California.
